Aiming to withdraw unfair dismissals and organize workers at foreign-affiliated companies
In response to Visteon‘s unfair dismissal attack at the end of December last year, union member A filed a lawsuit seeking confirmation of his status in the Yokohama District Court on January 29th this year, and the first hearing was held on March 22, 2024.
The company discriminated against union member A in terms of pay increases and lump-sum payments, ignoring the labor-management agreement to maintain working conditions at the time of the M&A transfer, and in order to justify this discrimination, the company drastically worsened personnel evaluations.
Visteon then cited the poor personnel evaluations as reason for dismissal.
One of the reasons why the union was unable to mount an effective counterattack against this series of attacks was its lack of experience in dealing with foreign-affiliated labor management and anti-union sentiment. The union filled the gallery at the first hearing, and after the hearing, the union made a request to Visteon headquarters and engaged in a second round of publicity activities.
From the second hearing onwards, the proceedings will be held online, but in order to win the courtroom and improve the working environment when workers return to work, we will continue to promote protests at the headquarters with the aim of organizing the workers into a labor union.
